Experience

Hello! I'm currently a second-year medical student at the Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine. In high school, I graduated with the 4th highest GPA out of about 300 students and received a full scholarship to the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, where I graduated Summa Cum Laude (with a GPA of 3.98) with a B.A. in Biology and a minor in Spanish. I passed 6 AP exams in high school, receiving 5's in both AP Biology and AP Psychology, 4's in AP US History, AP Government, and AP Calculus, and a 3 in AP English Language and Composition. I received a total score of 2140 on my SAT (750 in Critical Reading, 670 in Math, and 770 in Writing), and a score of 32S on my MCAT (10 in Biology, 11 in Physical Sciences, 11 in Verbal Reasoning, and an S on the J-T scale for Writing). During my undergraduate career at the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, I was part of the Honors Program and made the Dean's List every semester for all four years that I spent there. My coursework in biology included a wide range of classes from Biochemistry to Cell Biology and even Deep Sea Biology. I completed two semesters of inorganic chemistry and two semesters of organic chemistry, receiving an A+ in both organic chemistry classes. I also took two semesters of physics to complete a pre-medical qualification, and also took a wide range of non-science classes from Jazz History to Ancient Greek for a well-balanced liberal arts education. I completed a minor in Spanish there as well, which was comprised of 5 classes throughout college and culminated in an Advanced Speaking course as well as an Advanced Spanish course called The Culture and Civilization of Spain (all taught in Spanish). As a second year medical student now, I have already studied a wide range of medical material, including Histology, Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology, Microbiology, Pathology, Pharmacology, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Pulmonology, Nephrology, etc. I am currently preparing for Step 1 of my medical licensing boards examination, which I will be taking next summer. Since I will be reviewing all of this material over the next few months, I would be an excellent tutor in a wide range of medical and scientific topics. On a side note, I am also a classically-trained pianist and have been playing since I was 9 years old, and have also been playing the clarinet since middle school. In terms of tutoring experience, I was a Teacher's Assistant for both an organic chemistry laboratory and a biology laboratory during college and I currently tutor first year students at my medical school in their medical coursework. I also gave private piano lessons to a 5-year old girl during the summertime several years ago. I have always been quite motivated academically and have had a love of learning from a young age, and I would love to help and be an encouragement to students who are where I was several years ago. I have also been very interested in all of my coursework from grade school up to the present, and tutoring younger students would help me to refresh myself on all the knowledge I worked so hard to obtain.

Hobbies

I am a newly-wed 24 year old medical student who is in her second year of medical school. This past summer I married another medical student who is now a new family medicine doctor. Together, the two of us pursue a wide range of interests, both inside and outside of medicine, from volunteering at charity medical clinics to attending various medical conferences. We also volunteer once every few weeks with a group called Urban Mission Fellowship in Camden, where we mentor middle-school and high-school kids in various aspects of life, from applying to college to learning how to eat healthier. I am very passionate about health and nutrition and intend to promote the importance of nutrition in my future career as a doctor. I am also very family-oriented and am the proud aunt to several school-age children, to whom I am known as the "fun aunt" who buys them educational science toys. I am constantly trying to instill a love of learning in them, which has proven to be successful over the past few years as their grades and interest in school has been steadily increasing. I would love to help instill this same love of learning in even more students.
